Polishing is an essential operation for the preservation of wood. Whether it is furniture or items placed in exteriors or interiors, polishing protects the wood from weathering (oxidation, moisture, mold and mildew) and preserves the tone and the original color, or the color produced by special chemical treatments. When using a “clear polish” it is possible, however, that a slight change in tone can result from exposure to the sun or other atmospheric agents. Most types of polishing involves two steps: application of a primer and then a topcoat.

La lucidatura è un’operazione indispensabile per la conservazione del legno, siano mobili o oggetti da esterni o interni per preservarli da agenti atmosferici (ossidazione, umidità, muffe e funghi) o da un uso domestico, per preservarne il tono od il colore originale o quello dato mediante “mordenzatura”. Utilizzando una “lucidatura trasparente” è possibile comunque che un lieve cambiamento di tono sia dato dall’esposizione al sole o, per alcune “essenze”, alla stessa atmosfera. La maggior parte dei tipi di lucidatura comporta due fasi: preparazione di fondo e finitura.
